Solid Waste Services - GFL (former WCA)

1. Where can I find my solid waste service days schedule?: Click Here for an interactive residential service map which will provide the day of the week that your solid waste, curbside recycling, bulk waste and yard waste recycling will take place.

2. What do I do to report a missed service?: You may call GFL (former WCA) at 281.403.5800.

3. What is the default cart size?: Each residential unit residing within the incorporated areas of Missouri City will receive (1) 95-gallon Cart on wheels (Blue) and (1) 65-gallon Recycle Cart on wheels (Grey).

4. Can I get a larger/smaller cart?: Yes. GFL (former WCA) will take requests throughout the year and provide the new requested size in the first quarter of each calendar year. Residents have the option of a 65, or 95 gallon cart for garbage and recycling. To request a different size, please contact GFL Customer Service at 281.403.5800.

5. Why can’t I continue to use other trash containers?: The automated collection program uses vehicles that are equipped with a lifting mechanism. The lifting mechanism reaches out to the specially designed cart provided by GFL (former WCA), lifts it up, empties the contents and returns the cart to its original position near the curb. Due to the variety of shapes and sizes of store purchased trash cans, only the designated carts provided can be used for automated collection services. GFL recommends utilizing your existing containers for bulk trash or yard waste.

There are numerous benefits:

Residents will not have to purchase their own trash containers because the carts will be provided by GFL (former WCA) at no additional cost to the residents.
Using a roll cart for recycling increases the capacity for recyclable commodities versus typical 18-gallon recycle bins.
Due to the recycling cart having wheels, it may be more convenient for residents to wheel the carts to the curb opposed to carrying an 18-gallon bin or, a container without wheels or, castors.
Carts have lids that help create neater and litter-free neighborhoods, increasing the aesthetic appeal and value of your community.

7. What is the cost for getting a cart and maintenance cost for the carts?: There is no cost for the cart to be provided to your home, and for normal wear and tear there is no cost to residents to have a cart replaced. However, there are costs due to carelessness, neglect or malicious damage, which result in a cart being rendered unserviceable.

8. What if I want an extra cart?: Extra carts will be available after the start of the new program, which began service on Jan. 4, 2016. A homeowner can have an extra trash cart at a cost of $75 per year; call GFL's (former WCA) Missouri City Customer Service Center for details; 281.403.5800.

9. How do the new carts get serviced each week?: The carts should be placed directly at the curb, with the handle away from the street, facing your home. Keep at least three feet of distance between carts and mailboxes or other objects, and do not park cars in front of, or close to, the cart.

The recycle cart has information on the lid that lists “acceptable items”:

No Glass (This should be disposed of as regular trash)
All loose paper
Newspapers
Magazines
Corrugated & boxboard cardboard (No pizza boxes; these should be disposed of as regular trash)
Steel & tin cans
Aluminum containers
Household plastics #1 to #7 (Excluding Styrofoam)

11. Do I have to sort the recyclables in the new carts?: The recycling will be single stream, which allows residents to place all recyclables together in one container.

12. What if I can’t roll my cart to the curb, due to health reasons?: Residents with health concerns should complete a valet/assisted service form. For questions, call 281.403.5800.

13. What if I have an issue regarding my trash or recyclables services?: You may contact the GFL's (former WCA) Customer Service Center at 281.403.5800. This number will be printed on the lids of the trash and recycle containers for future reference.

14. When do I have to have my carts put out for service and put them away after service?: Per City ordinance, all garbage, trash or yard waste can be placed on the curb at 6 p.m. the day before pickup. Empty trash cans must be stored out of public view by midnight the day of pickup.

15. How do I dispose of yard waste?: Yard waste will be collected once a week. You may utilize your own containers or place the yard waste in compostable bags.
