2023 Snowfest: 40 Years of Holiday Fun in Missouri City

Fireworks at Snowfest

MISSOURI CITY, TEXAS (December 7, 2023) – On Saturday, Dec. 2, the City of Missouri City celebrated its 40th Annual Snowfest, a holiday-themed, family-friendly event attended by thousands of area residents.

Snowfest is a tradition in Missouri City, widely known for its parade and City Hall festival featuring a giant snow hill. This year, there were two snow hills of lesser height, to try and accommodate more sliders. The celebration also included the Snowfest Shuffle fun run, carnival rides, a holiday marketplace, local food vendors, pictures with Santa, a holiday tree lighting and fireworks.

Many City departments played a role in the success of Snowfest, but it was the Parks and Recreation Department that orchestrated the daylong event from start to finish.

“While Parks and Recreation takes the lead in putting together this event, on the day of the festivities, you can see members of every municipal department assisting,” said Parks and Recreation Director Donnie Hayes.

“What a joy it is to see the smiling faces, hear the laughter, and to know it is because of the amazing work Missouri City staff have put in. We could not have done it without everyone’s effort.”

Snowfest began at 8 a.m., with a one-mile Snowfest Shuffle fun run that started and ended at the Recreation and Tennis Center. From there, the Snowfest Parade kicked off at 9 a.m. along Cartwright Road.

Many community organizations participated in the parade, including the Dreams in Motion Dance Company, Missouri City Raiders Football and Cheer Teams, and Houston Community College.

The Grand Marshal for this year’s parade was none other than Texas A&M wide receiver Ainias Smith, who was born and raised in Missouri City. As a symbolic gesture to kick off the parade, Mayor Robin J. Elackatt threw a football to the Grand Marshal.

A new addition to this year’s parade was the Viewers’ Stand. Emcees announced each organization’s float while parade attendees cheered for their favorites. Judges evaluated all parade entrants in specific categories. Trophies were handed out to the following winners:

  • Best Youth Entry – Dynasty Dance Team
  • Best Motorized Entry – Missouri City Police Department
  • Best Livestock Entry – Bayou City Pony Club
  • Best Performing Arts Entry – Dreams In Motion Dance Company
  • Most Holiday Spirit – KIPP Journey Royals
