Gov. Greg Abbott has issued an executive order prohibiting governmental entities in the state from requiring or mandating the use of masks or facial coverings, beginning immediately.

“The City of Missouri City is aware of Gov. Abbott’s directive and is prepared to fully comply,” said Mayor Robin J. Elackatt. “This decree will have an impact on operations in all municipal facilities, including City Hall, the Police Department, the Fire Department, Inspections & Permits, Parks & Recreation, the Community Center, Animal Services, Municipal Court, and the Quail Valley Golf Course and City Centre. We are working diligently to ensure that all programs and services transition to the new order, keeping in mind that customer safety and service are paramount.”

Elackatt continued that the City “will still require staff, citizens, visitors and stakeholders to go through temperature check stations and will encourage the use of hand sanitizer and social distancing.”

Governmental establishments that are exempt from Gov. Abbott’s order include county and municipal jails acting consistently with Texas Commission on Jail Standards guidance, state-supported living centers, government-owned hospitals, Texas Department of Criminal Justice facilities and Texas Juvenile Justice Department facilities.
