To continue the beautification throughout the “Show Me City,” the MCTX Art in Public Places Program is undergoing an initiative to gather public input from residents and local artists to increase the art in the community. Future art projects will highlight the City’s cultural diversity while increasing capital infrastructure.
To gain a stronger understanding of art preferences, the Program is releasing a community survey, which allows the public to provide direct feedback on the initiative. Participants will provide information about what kind of art they would like in the City, as well as give their input about the significance of art.
“This community survey will provide us the necessary insights to ensure a successful art campaign,” said Tourism Manager Sade McCallan. “We value the opinions of our community, and we look forward to working with the public to further enhance art in our City.”

To date, there have been two public input meetings that were hosted by staff in October, 2018 at the Visitors Center. Residents and stakeholders attended and discussed innovative public art features from across the nation and shared their vision on future MCTX art projects and policies.
The City’s public arts initiative is growing with the creation of the Arts Commission. Nine Council-appointed individuals will serve on the board. In addition to those members, City Manager Odis Jones will appoint an administrator to form the connection between the Program, the City, and the artists. Residents will have the opportunity to submit interest in serving on the Commission by completing the survey and selecting the option “yes” for the question: “Would you be interested in serving on the Missouri City Arts Commission?” and providing their email address.
