Snowfest Festival on Dec. 7 and Santa Shuffle, Parade on Dec. 8

Parks Agenda

Continuing 35 years of holiday tradition, the City is preparing to host its annual Snowfest Festival, Santa Shuffle and Parade. The two-day celebration will kick-off with the Snowfest Festival on Friday, Dec. 7 in the City Hall Complex, 1522 Texas Pkwy. Pre- event entertainment featuring dance performances and an honor choir, will begin at 5:30 p.m.; a tree lighting ceremony and fireworks show will follow afterward. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., guests are invited to enjoy various event activities such as moonwalks, photos with Santa, the famous three-lane snow hill, wandering performers and more.

Event parking is available at Thurgood Marshall High School, 1220 Buffalo Run Blvd. and FREE event shuttles will be running throughout the event.

To support area families in need this holiday season, the Police Department is coordinating the annual Blue Santa Toy Drive and will be onsite to collect unwrapped toys. All donations may be dropped off by the Christmas tree.

Then on Saturday, Dec. 8 staff will host the annual Snowfest Shuffle at 8:15 a.m. at theRecreation & Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr. Runners of all levels and ages are invited to participate. To enter, runners must donate an unwrapped toy for the Blue Santa Toy Drive; the race will end at the Recreation & Tennis Center where participants will enjoy a special celebration.

Following the Shuffle, the Snowfest Parade will begin at 9 a.m. at Public Safety Headquarters located at 3849 Cartwright Rd. The two-mile long convoy will feature floats decorated in holiday themes, various organizations on foot and a special appearance by Santa. To register for the parade, email kfrye@missouricitytx.gov; registration deadline is Dec. 3. Roads will close at 7:30 a.m. along the route.

Senior Foodies: Brandani’s

  • What: A chance for food enthusiasts 50 and older to meet new friends and enjoy a delicious meal at a local restaurant with great company. Participants can RSVP by calling 281.403.8637.

Family Fun Night: Sports Edition

  • What: Free family fun for all while learning the rules of pickleball and table tennis and then practicing the skills. Snacks and drinks will be provided; parental supervision is required.
  • When: 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30

Afternoon With an Expert

  • What: Learn key fire safety tips for winter and how to operate a fire extinguisher from Lt. Robert Jasper from the MCTX Fire Department.
  • When: 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5
  • Where:  Recreation & Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr.

Tots & Crafts

  • What: Bi-weekly free family events that will feature free play and crafts for kids. No registration required.
  • When: 9 a.m. every other Wednesday; next session on Dec. 12
  • Where:  Recreation & Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr. 

Senior Holiday Party

  • What: Fun evening for guests that will feature a delicious meal, live band performance & raffle prizes. All are welcome to attend. Early bird tickets are $10 and will increase to $15 after Dec. 3.
  • When: 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13
  • Where:  City Centre at Quail Valley, 2880 La Quinta Dr.

Toy Drive Tennis Tournament

  • What: Get in the holiday spirit at this social, competitive mixed doubles tournament while benefiting a good cause. The MCTX Police Department will swing by in the squad car and collect all gifts for Bethel Ministry & Blue Santa Toy Drive. Entry deadline is Tuesday, Dec. 11. Cost is $15 plus an unopened gift; call 281.403.8629 for more information.
  • When: All day on Saturday, Dec. 15

Blood Drive

  • What: Start off your New Year as a hero by donating blood at the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center’s mobile unit in MCTX.
  • When: 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019
  • Where:  Recreation & Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr.

Acrylic Painting Class

  • What: Painters of all skill levels are welcome to this five-week session taught by professional painter, Heather Roy. Students will paint “Winter Wonderland” and all supplies are provided. Cost is $75 per five-week session; call 281.403.8637 to register.
  • When: Every Tuesday at 9 a.m. from Jan. 8, 2019 to Feb. 5, 2019
  • Where:  Recreation & Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr. 

Breakfast & Bingo

  • What: Visit with peers, enjoy breakfast and play friendly rounds of bingo for great prizes at this monthly event for senior residents. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door.
  • When: 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17
  • Where:  Recreation & Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr. 

iGeneration 101: Smart Phone Edition

  • What: This new initiative is focused on seniors having difficulty with their smart phones. Fort Bend Independent School District’s S.T.E.M students will be sharing tips on how to download apps, connect to Bluetooth devices, take or send photos/videos and more. Attendees must bring their smartphones.
  • When: 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23
  • Where:  Recreation & Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr.
