2018 Runoff Election: Election Day is Today, Saturday, Dec. 8


The 2018 Runoff Election will take place today, Dec. 8 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.. Positions on the ballot are: Mayor and At-Large Position #2 with terms of office from November, 2018 to November, 2020. Details on voting locations and hours for both Fort Bend and Harris County residents are below.

On Saturday, Dec. 8—Election Day, MCTX Fort Bend County voters may vote at any of the following countywide polling locations:

  • Elkins High School, 7007 Knights Court
  • Hightower High School, 3333 Hurricane Lane 
  • Hunters Glen Elementary School, 695 Independence Blvd.
  • Lake Olympia Marina Clubhouse, 180 Island Blvd.
  • Lantern Lane Elementary School, 3323 Mission Valley Dr.
  • Lexington Creek Elementary School, 2335 Dulles Ave.
  • Missouri City Community Center, 1522 Texas Pkwy. 
  • Quail Valley Elementary School, 3500 Quail Village Dr.
  • Quail Valley Fund Office, 3603 Glenn Lakes Lane
    • Hours: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Dec. 8—Election Day, MCTX Harris County voters must vote in their precinct (#506) where registered to vote which is:

  • Fondren Park Community Center, 11800 McLain Blvd. 
    • Hours7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Why is there a runoff election? 

Per City Charter, Sec. 6.03.: The election to each office shall be by a majority—50 percent or more—of all the votes cast at such election for the respective office. In an election to the office of mayor or councilmember, where no candidate receives a majority of all the votes cast, the council shall issue a call for a run-off election.

Why are candidates required to receive 50 percent of votes?

Per City Charter, Sec. 6.03.: The election to each office shall be by a majority—50 percent or more—of all the votes cast at such election for the respective office.

Who are the runoff candidates and what are their political party affiliations?

  • Mayoral Candidates: Allen Owen and Yolanda Ford
  • Councilmember, At-Large Position #2 Candidates: Chris Preston and Susan Soto
  • Missouri City’s elections are nonpartisan.

 What communities can vote in the Runoff Election?

Registered voters who reside in Missouri City subdivisions located in Fort Bend and Harris Counties are eligible to vote in the Dec. 8 Runoff Election.

Will there be absentee voting?

Will access to poll locations on Runoff Election day be impacted by the Snowfest Parade?

The Missouri City Community Center is not on the parade route and will be open for voting on Dec. 8. A reminder that Dec. 8 is also the date of the City’s annual Snowfest Parade. At 7:15 a.m., Cartwright Road, and all intersecting roads, from 1092 (Murphy Road) to Texas Parkway will be closed. The roads will reopen by 11 a.m.

When will runoff election results be verified? 

Results from the Dec. 8, 2018 Runoff Election will be canvassed at the Monday, Dec. 17, 2018 Special City Council Meeting.

When will the elected runoff candidates take office? 

Elected officials may be sworn into office at the Monday, Dec. 17, 2018 Regular Meeting.

What is the deadline to remove candidate signage? 

Runoff candidates have until Dec. 11 to remove their political signage.

What are some key election dates residents should know?

  • Tuesday, Dec. 4: Last day of Runoff Election Early Voting
  • Saturday, Dec. 8: Runoff Election Day
  • Monday, Dec. 17: Swearing in of Runoff Election candidate winner(s) and election of Mayor Pro Tem at the Regular City Council meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall Complex, 1522 Texas Pkwy.
