MCTX Plans Exciting Fun for Summer/Fall 2018


The Parks & Recreation Department has a full program agenda that is fun for all ages. Visit or see details below:

Summer Fitness Series

What: Free fitness classes in the park. Class offerings will feature yoga, PiYo and boot camp-style programs. Check out the series’ flyer for specific class times.

When: Every Monday, Tuesday and Friday June 12 – Aug. 10

Where: Community Park Pavilion 4, 1700 Glenn Lakes Lane

Fall Junior Tennis

What: Missouri City will partner with King Daddy Sports for upcoming Fall Junior Tennis sessions. Academy Tennis, 10 & Under and Drop-in sessions are offered. Visit the Junior Tennis page on the City’s website for a complete list of upcoming sessions and cost details.

This class is designed for players that are ready to compete and/or are already competing at the Challenger level (Green and Yellow Ball), Championship level or Super championship level. The training will be focused on developing the all-court player with a mix of dead ball feeding drills for stroke production and technical development to live ball training to learn how to properly construct points and compete. Players will be grouped by competition level within the class.

  • Session 2: Sept. 24 – Oct. 19
  • Session 3: Oct. 22 – Nov. 16
  • Thanksgiving Camp: Nov. 19 – 21
  • Session 4: Nov. 26 – Dec. 21

  • Holiday Camp 2: Jan. 2 – 4

Skills and Drills

What: A chance to learn fundamental skills training of shooting, ball handling, post play, perimeter play, defense and special areas from former University of Houston stand out and professional basketball player, Craig Upchurch. Cost is $100 for four sessions and $180 for eight sessions.

When: 4 – 6 p.m. Tuesdays/Thursdays starting Aug. 7

Where: Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr. 

Tots & Crafts

What: Bi-weekly free family events that will feature donuts and coffee for parents and free play and crafts for kids. No registration required.

When: 9 – 10 a.m. every other Wednesday morning; the next sessions are being held Aug. 8 and 22.

Where:  Community Center, 1522 Texas Pkwy.

Afternoon with an Expert: Missouri City Police Department 

What: A free presentation from Missouri City Police Lt. Jazton Heard on personal safety and how to proactively protect yourself.

When: 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9

Where: Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr. 

Back to School Health Fair

What: Continuing the tradition of community unity, the “Show Me City” is once again partnering with AccessHealth and Fort Bend County to host the 2018 Back-to-School Health Fair and Backpack giveaway. Participants will receive free vision and dental screenings, speech/language screenings and haircuts. The event will also feature a DJ, bounce houses, snacks, face painters, mascots, cool-off zones with mist fans, community booths and more. Shot records are required to receive immunizations. Children must be present to receive backpacks and materials.

When: 9 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11

Where: Fort Bend County – Missouri City Annex, 307 Texas Pkwy.

Bingo Night 

What: Senior monthly bingo for area residents who are ages 50 and older. For $5, attendees will visit with peers, enjoy dinner and play friendly rounds of bingo for great prizes.

When: 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16

Where: Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr. 

Senior Foodies: Hoggs N’ Chicks

What: A chance for food enthusiasts ages 50 and older to meet new friends and enjoy a delicious meal at a local restaurant with great company. Participants can RSVP by calling 281.403.8637; participants will meet at the restaurant the day of the event and pay for their own lunch.

When: 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23

Where: Hoggs N’ Chicks, 8817 Hwy. 6 #900

Senior Field Trip: Houston Parks & Museums

What: An exciting trip to explore Houston Parks & Museums. Participants will explore Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern – the City of Houston’s former drinking water reservoir; “Open House” – the newest addition to Sam Houston Parks; and “Big Bambú” – a new installation at the Museum of Fine Art Houston. Spots are limited – register by calling 281.403.8637. The cost is $25; this does not include the cost of lunch.

When: 9:45 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29

Where: Participants will meet at and depart from the Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr.

Backyard Composting Tutorial 

What: A workshop led by compost specialists from the Fort Bend Master Gardeners on how to turn yard trimmings into fertile compost by setting up a basic backyard composting system. Participants will take home a compost bin, so that they can begin composting their garden waste after the class. The class is $30 per person registering; accompanying family members are free. Visit the Missouri City Green Website to access the registration form and complete payment.

When: 8:30 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1

Where: Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr.

Painting Class 

What: Painting classes held in five-week sessions taught by professional painter Heather Roy. Classes are $75 per session, and all supplies are provided. Beginners are welcome; sign up at the Recreation and Tennis Center.

When: 9 – 11 a.m. every Tuesday, Sept. 4 – Oct. 2

Where: Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr. 

Afternoon with an Expert: Dr. Houston Braly 

What: A free informational session about managing joint pain, presented by Dr. Houston Braly. RSVP by calling 281.403.8637; lunch will be provided to those who RSVP by Aug. 31.

When: 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5

Where: Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr. 

Senior Casino Trip: Delta Downs

What: A chance for participants ages 50 and older to travel with great company to the Delta Downs Casino. Limited spots are available; the cost is $10, and interested participants can sign up at the Recreation and Tennis Center.

When: 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11

Where: Participants will meet at and leave from the Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr. 


What: The City’s second-annual Oktoberfest, once again featuring authentic food, beer, entertainment and games. Admission is free. Our local Missouri City business partners at Texas Biergarten and Texas Leaguer Brewery will also be on-site to sell food and a variety of beers on tap. Performers will include Texas Legacy Czech Band, a five-piece group that plays Czech, German, Polish and oldies; and Houston Saengerbund, who performed in 2017.

When: 12 – 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22

Where: City Centre at Quail Valley, 2880 La Quinta Dr.

Family Camping 

What: A fun camping experience at Brazos Bend State Park, held in partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife. This program costs $75 per family (for up to six family members). The camping event includes a one-night workshop, and each family or group of up to six people gets a campsite with nearby restrooms and the use of equipment including: tent, cots for two adults, four foam sleeping pads for children, a lantern, camp stove, cooking pots/pans and utensils, and a coffee press. Participants will need to bring bedding, personal items and food. Registration forms are available online or can be picked up at the Recreation and Tennis Center.

When: 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6

Where: Brazos Bend State Park

Tricks and Treats in the Park

What: Young ones are invited to come dressed in Halloween costumes and participate in the activities along the FREE Tricks & Treats Trail! Festivities include a petting zoo, moonwalks, a pumpkin patch photo station, games and plenty of candy. 

When: 4 – 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27

Where:  Buffalo Run Park, 1122 Buffalo Run Blvd.

Fencing Classes

What: A chance to gain instruction in basic fencing through advanced tactical techniques. Participants will learn footwork, blade work and bouting. Classes are $100 per month; ages 8 and older are welcome to attend. Register by calling 281.403.8637.

When: 5 – 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday

Where: Community Center, 1522 Texas Pkwy.
