End of Hurricane Season Ushers in Freezing Conditions

As the 2020 Hurricane Season ends today, the National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for #MCTX starting at midnight. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees are expected. Our area will not begin to warm up to above-freezing temperatures until around 9:00 AM tomorrow, with it warming to the low 60s by 4 PM. No precipitation is expected for our area, so the morning commute should not be adversely affected.

However, residents should take precautionary measures to guard against frost and freezing conditions, which can harm pets, kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Bring pets and potted plants inside. Use blankets, bedsheets, towels or drop cloths to shield tender plants and shrubbery from the cold. To prevent freezing and the possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly. Those with in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
